New assistant biz editor in Asheville

May 7, 2006

Editor Susan Ihne reports in her Sunday column that the Asheville (N.C.) Citizen Times has a new assistant business editor.

Ihne writes, “Kelby Hartson Carr, 33, has joined the newsroom staff as assistant business editor/reporter. She comes to Asheville from The Times in Northwest Indiana, a 90,000 daily circulation paper outside of Chicago.

“‘My husband and I were looking for a place to relocate that felt like home. As soon as we saw Asheville, on a vacation last fall, we knew this was it,’ Carr said. ‘It kind of reminded us of our time in France with the outdoor cafes and livable downtown and the mountains.’

“But before they could relocate, twins Kaya and Ethan needed to make an appearance — which they did about six weeks early on March 7.

“They join sister Gabrielle, 3.

“‘I like covering business because it’s like an underrated beat. It impacts everyone’s lives. It’s where you shop, where you work, it’s so many things,’ she said. ‘It’s a beat that forces you to be creative.'”
