Minneapolis/St. Paul Biz Journal hires new residential real estate/manufacturing reporter

Dylan Thomas joined the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal to cover residential real estate, homebuilding, transportation and manufacturing.

Editor Dirk DeYoung asked him about his career. Here is an excerpt:

Tell us about your journalism background. Before joining the Business Journal I was editor of the Southwest Journal, a biweekly community newspaper serving southwest Minneapolis neighborhoods, and — until it shut down in December — its sister publication, The Journal, which began its long run covering downtown Minneapolis in the late ’60s as the Skyway News.

I spent about 12 years at the Journals, working as a staff writer and assistant editor before becoming editor. I covered the arts, transportation, education, neighborhoods and local government.

My career began in Mankato at The Free Press, where I worked for about four years after graduating from the University of Minnesota–Twin Cities with a degree in journalism. I wrote for the Minnesota Daily while at the U.

What generated your interest in working for the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal? I’ve worked on a wide range of newsroom beats, but I’ve never been strictly a business reporter, and I’m eager to learn some news skills in this job.
