Michigan biz reporter suffering from Lou Gehrig’s disease

Chris Knape of the Grand Rapids Press writes Sunday about the paper’s business reporter, Julia Bauer, who is taking disability leave to fight Lou Gehrig’s disease.

Knape writes, “Julia has covered some of the most significant business stories in West Michigan during her tenure, including the ever-evolving office furniture and auto industries.

“She also has shared with us personal stories such as her quest to get a little greener by installing solar panels on her home and her search to get a little cleaner by trying to find a car wash that was open on Sundays in Grand Rapids.

“She was part of the staff that won back-to-back national Best in Business awards from the Society of American Business Editors and Writers.

“Today’s paper includes Julia’s front-page story previewing this year’s Grand Rapids auto show and the main piece on the Business cover about recent trends in bankruptcy.”
