Providence Business News has promoted Mike Mello to editor and William Hamilton to managing editor.

Mello succeeds Mark S. Murphy, who served as editor for 14 years before leaving PBN Sept. 23 to lead the John H. Chafee Center for International Business at Bryant University.

A story on its website states, “For the last 12 years, Mello has served as PBN’s managing editor. Before that he worked in various newsroom positions in Rhode Island, Massachusetts and Washington, D.C., including at The Providence Journal and The Associated Press.

“Hamilton rejoined PBN as special projects editor in February 2019. Before that, he was a content editor and Sunday business editor at The Providence Journal. He was a PBN staff writer from 2007 to 2011, and had previously written and edited for the Fall River Herald News, the Pawtucket Times and the Kent County Daily Times.

“‘PBN is excited to have an editor with Hamilton’s experience and knowledge of Rhode Island and the region working with our talented team of reporters,’ Mello said.”
