OLD Media Moves

Media company Stacker providing biz news stories and data to newspapers

A data-driven media company called Stacker is offering a localized wire service that provides business news content to news organizations around the country.

News outlets have relied on syndicated partner content to augment original reporting, fill coverage gaps, and keep audiences engaged. Traditional wire services such as The Associated Press, Reuters, and Tribune Content Agency provide reporting from areas that many news outlets may not have the bandwidth or budget to have a physical presence of their own.

Stacker, founded in 2017, takes a different tack by offering data-driven content — a popular and rapidly growing area of journalism that hasn’t seen the same level of investment outside of individual newsrooms.

“We’ve spent four years thinking about the best ways to turn public data into digestible and engaging stories for news outlets, and we’re thrilled our stories are playing a role in our partners’ coverage,” said Stacker CEO Noah Greenberg. “We’re excited to continue to invest in our newsroom and the tools necessary to make accessing data journalism seamless.”

Stacker has provided coverage of topics such as food stamp usage, or a breakdown of cost of living in each state. Stacker says it produces quality journalism by shining a light on stories often hidden in local and national data.

Its data covers over 350 metro areas. Stacker publishes more than 20 articles per day, sending stories every morning to hundreds of news partners, from major media groups like Tribune Publishing, Hearst, and Nexstar to independently owned newsrooms such as Las Vegas Review-Journal and Auburn Examiner.

Stacker now provides its content to over 1,000 local newsrooms across the country — from major national publications like the Chicago Tribune to small newsrooms like Clarksville Now in Tennessee.
