Fox26 consumer reporter Emily Akin officially announced her retirement Monday, reports Houston Chronicle reporter Marcy de Luna.
De Luna reports, “‘I started in radio in 1975 while I was in college,’ Akin told Chron.com. ‘After that, I was a political reporter at a radio station in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The station’s sister TV station picked me up in 1980.’
“From Albuquerque, Akin relocated to Miami for a stint as a business reporter and fill-in anchor at WPLG-TV before moving to Houston for a job at KPRC in 1995, she said.
“While at Channel 2, she hosted such segments as ‘Akin’s Army,’ ‘Not On The Menu,’ and ‘2 On Your Side.’
“Akin moved to Fox26 in 2006.
“‘This has been a great place to work. They know the power of TV can do good in the community,’ Akin said. ‘But it’s time to retire. I’ve been thinking about it for a while.'”
