LA Times follows up on UFW coverage

The Los Angeles Times followed up with another story about the United Farm Workers this week. Earlier this year, the paper ran a four-part series that was highly critical of the union, and the series drew responses from everyone from the union leadership to professors in California.

Staff writer Miriam Pawel writes, “UFW spokesman Marc Grossman said in a statement that union officials would not be interviewed for this story because of unhappiness with a recent four-part series in The Times that detailed how the union had shifted focus from organizing farmworkers toward a broader Latino advocacy role.”

Shows you what tough coverage will get you. Seriously, does the union think it’s going to accomplish anything by not talking?

L.A. Observed notes that the union is now looking for a new communications director in the wake of the series, posting an ad on Monster.com.
