Jury selection begins for ex-Boeing worker who leaked info

Andrea James of the Seattle Post-Intelligencer writes Tuesday that the jury selection has begun in the case of a former Boeing worker fired for leaking company information to a Seattle Times reporter.

James wrote, “A series of articles revealing sensitive information about Boeing aircraft design appeared in The Seattle Times, starting in 2003, prosecutors allege. On April 12, 2006, Boeing investigators say they received an anonymous e-mail tip that pinpointed Eastman as the source of the leaked information, according to charging papers.

“Eastman’s attorney was still deciding Monday whether she would seek to have the reporter who wrote those articles, Dominic Gates, testify. Seattle P-I reporter James Wallace is also identified as a ‘contact’ in Eastman’s address book. The state said it would not subpoena either reporter.

“Eastman says that he is a whistle-blower who was retaliated against for raising safety concerns. He says that he copied the files to document allegations to the Federal Aviation Administration that Boeing engaged in fraud. He has since found employment in Bothell.”
