International Business Times editor in chief Peter Goodman sent out the following staff announcement on Friday:
We’re thrilled to share word that John Simons is joining our growing newsroom as our new Business Editor.
John is an outstanding journalist and all-around excellent guy who has made every place he has ever worked better and more interesting. He has most recently served as Technology and Media Editor at The Associated Press here in New York, where he has overseen coverage of technology companies, trends, product reviews, and consumer issues, earning a reputation as a gifted line editor, a source of smart angles and a generous colleague.
In previous incarnations, John has been an editorial director at Black Enterprise, a staff writer at Fortune magazine (where he wrote on science and technology, including biotech and pharmaceuticals), an economic policy reporter at the Wall Street Journal, and a Senior Editor at U.S. News & World Report. He was also Markle Fellow at the New America Foundation, where he focused on technology policy and economic opportunity in the digital age.
While at Fortune, John won a National Association of Black Journalists “Salute to Excellence” award for “Out of Africa”, a story about genealogical research and personal DNA testing.
John brings a mastery of subject and an ability to serve it up in engaging fashion to regular people — virtues that have found him audience in the broadcast world. He has discussed his work on The PBS News Hour, CNN, The Fox Network, MSNBC, National Public Radio, and CNBC, where he is a regular contributor
John lives in Montclair, NJ, where he enjoys hiking with his wife and daughter, watching English Premier League soccer matches, and trying his hand at various home improvement projects.
He joins us October 6. Please give him a hearty welcome.
