Insider hires BuzzFeed’s Haskins to cover AI, surveillance tech

Insider has hired BuzzFeed News senior technology reporter Caroline Haskins to cover artificial intelligence and surveillance technology.

She will be based in New York and starts Aug. 16.

At BuzzFeed, she broke news on Amazon’s Ring, Palantir, Clearview AI, and a host of other important companies and technologies.

“I’m thrilled to have a reporter with such passion and talent join our team,” said Alistair Barr, deputy technology editor at Insider. “We will continue to recruit top journalists to cover beats including social media, Asia tech, e-commerce marketplaces, and Apple and the developer and hardware ecosystems.”

Haskins has been a staff writer at Motherboard for a year. She has also worked at The Outline.

She is a graduate of New York University.

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
