Inc. hires new San Fran bureau chief

Matt Haber

Jon Fine, executive director of editorial at Inc. magazine, sent out the following staff announcement on Monday:

Team:

I’m thrilled to introduce you to Inc.’s new San Francisco Bureau Chief: Matt Haber.

Matt, a native Long Islander who relocated some years ago to the Bay Area, has had a long and distinguished career in media. His first job was at a Blockbuster Video, and his resume from there includes stops at Conde Nast Portfolio, the New York Observer, Fast Company, and Entertainment Weekly. He produced the first official Simpsons Web site, wrote for Vh1’s “Best Week Ever,“ and has written for, among many others, the New York Times, Rolling Stone, GQ, and Esquire. He’s also been an instructor at the Columbia School of Journalism’s Magazine and Digital Workshop since 2009.

Since landing on the West Coast, he co-created and co-edited Creative Growth Magazine, an annual publication from Creative Growth, which is an art center in Oakland for adults with developmental disabilities, and co-edited Vehicle, a regional publication for Uber drivers that tells said drivers’ stories in a format reminiscent of another era’s oversized art and design magazines. (Seriously. They’re crazy gorgeous.)

He also informs us that he didn’t get a driver’s license till he was 37, and just barely at that. So if he ever offers you a ride, you may wish to gently suggest summoning a Lyft or an Uber instead.

He starts on August 5, and will report to me. We expect him in the New York office soon to meet much of the team before long, but until then, please extend a warm welcome to Matt.

Welcome aboard, Matt!

Jon
