Helem promoted to editor of National Law Journal

Lisa Helem

Lisa Helem, the managing editor of the National Law Journal, has been promoted to editor of the ALM publication.

She replaces Beth Frerking, who left for a Texas publication.

Helem joined The National Law Journal in December 2015 as the publication’s assistant managing editor and was named managing editor in June 2016. As managing editor, she has helped to oversee publication of the magazine and has edited features, contributed content and special reports, including the Pro Bono and Appellate hotlists and D.C.’s Rising Stars.

“I’m excited about this new role and the road ahead for The National Law Journal,” said Helem in a statement. “One of my goals is to fully connect with our readership, drawing deeply from the insights of practitioners in our ever-growing profession.”

Helem graduated from Duke University in 2001. After college, she wrote for publications including Newsweek, People and the Washington bureau of Cox Newspapers. After receiving her J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School in 2009, Helem practiced law at Vinson & Elkins, before deciding to return to media.

Prior to joining ALM, Helem was a legal editor at Bloomberg BNA.
