FT’s Greeley to enter PhD program at Princeton

Brendan Greeley of the Financial Times will enter the doctoral program in history at Princeton University this fall.

He is currently on book leave writing a history of the dollar for the past 500 years.

He was promoted to U.S. economics editor at the Financial Times in 2019 after working at FT Alphaville. He previously  covered  the intersection of politics and the economy for Bloomberg News in New York.

Greeley was also once a co-anchor of Bloomberg Television’s “Bloomberg Surveillance” and a staff writer at Bloomberg Businessweek.

In 2012, he received a New York Press Club award for special events reporting for a Bloomberg Businessweek cover story, “Why Bin Laden Lost.” He has written cover features on the Pentagon’s response to the Ebola epidemic, how to sell soccer cleats, the reinsurance industry since Sept. 11 and Paul Krugman’s Twitter fight with the President of Estonia.

Previously, Greeley was a technology and policy correspondent at The Economist. Greeley also launched, edited, and contributed to the publication’s Babbage blog.

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
