FT hires Rogers as its U.S. labor and equality correspondent

Taylor Nicole Rogers

Taylor Nicole Rogers has been hired by the Financial Times as its U.S. labor and equality correspondent.

In this newly created role, Rogers will cover the financial, social and policy barriers limiting equal market participation in minority communities.

“This summer, the U.S. experienced a reckoning on the subject of racial justice and equality. In covering these stories, it became clear that we needed to expand our reporting to help our readers understand the challenges facing African-Americans and other minorities in the labour market and the boardroom,” said Peter Spiegel, U.S. managing editor, in a statement. “We are thrilled to welcome Taylor to the team, and I am looking forward to her strengthening the FT’s reporting with her coverage of economic disparities and inequality in American business and the workplace.”

Prior to joining the FT, Rogers was a reporter for Business Insider, where she covered wealth, inequality, and philanthropy. She broke the story of disputes over inequality inside Pinterest; covered how the ultra-wealthy were able to access COVID-19 tests before the general public; and interviewed leading philanthropists including investor Robert F. Smith and Panda Express co-CEO Peggy Cherng.

Rogers, who is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ), was previously an intern at CNN Business, TheStreet, and Yahoo News. She joined Business Insider after earning a degree in Journalism and Politics from NYU.

Chris Roush

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
