Fortune writer Bethany McLean, who is credited by many as being of the first journalists to call into question Enron Corp.’s financial statements, will speak at Colorado College on Thursday.
McLean has also written a book about Enron called “The Smartest Guys in the Room” with fellow Fortune writer Peter Elkind.
“Jeff Skilling, Kenneth Lay and the other executives were very intelligent. People in the company thought, we don’t understand what they’re doing, but they are so much smarter than we are; so we don’t have to understand, we just have to trust them,� McLean said. “In the end they didn’t end up being so smart after all.�
