Fortune announced Wednesday that it plans to launch editions in the Middle East next year with the help of a business partner.
Fortune’s Middle East editions will be published monthly, in Arabic, through a license agreement between Time Inc. and United Group, a major publisher in the region.
The magazine will launch its first local edition, Fortune UAE, followed by Fortune Kuwait, in early 2010. These will be the first of seven local editions and represent Fortune’s fifth and sixth foreign-language editions, following Fortune China, Fortune Turkey as well as the twice yearly special issues of Fortune Greece and the recently launched Fortune Korea.
“The Middle East business market has experienced dramatic growth and importance, creating a need for Fortune’s high-quality and in-depth business journalism,” said Hugh Wiley, Fortune’s publisher, in a statement. “With United Group, we are confident that they will provide in-depth understanding, analysis and journalism of the important developments in each country individually as well as the region more generally.”
