Former WSJ-er Felsenthal named editor at Time

Time Inc. Chief Content Officer Alan Murray, a former Wall Street Journal reporter and editor, sent out the following announcement on Thursday:

We are delighted to announce that Edward Felsenthal will become the 18th editor of TIME, ensuring that this powerful and iconic brand, founded in 1923, will continue to thrive as it approaches its 100th anniversary and beyond.

Needless to say, we didn’t have to look far to find the person to lead TIME to its next destination. One of Nancy Gibbs’s many strengths as a leader was hiring talent. She had the foresight to bring Edward, a highly respected veteran journalist who earned his digital chops as founding Executive Editor of The Daily Beast, into the TIME fold in 2013. As TIME’s Digital Editor, he worked with Nancy to more than double TIME’s digital audience, increase TIME’s video views tenfold and pioneer the establishment of an integrated 24/7 news operation.

In the past year, he also served as Digital Director of Time Inc.’s News and Lifestyle group, where he helped harness the combined power of all Time Inc. brands, which together make one of the nation’s top 10 digital audiences of online media properties. Edward was instrumental in the reinvention of the MONEY brand, which led to a doubling of MONEY’s digital audience while also strengthening the appeal of the print product.

Before joining The Daily Beast, Edward spent 15 years at the Wall Street Journal, where he was founding editor of Personal Journal, guided health coverage that led to two Pulitzer Prizes, oversaw news strategy and drove integration of the print and digital teams. He also covered the U.S. Supreme Court in the Journal’s Washington Bureau.

In short, Edward possesses the perfect blend of skills, experience and ingenuity to take TIME to the next level. Please congratulate him, and wish him luck for the exciting TIME ahead!
