Mary Myers, who became a business editor at the Chicago Sun-Times in the 1970s when female editors at major newspapers were uncommon, has died. She was 71, according to an Associated Press story.
“‘She was a path-breaker,’ said Alan Mutter, a former city editor at the newspaper. ‘She was terribly good at her work; she was an excellent editor in all respects.’
“In the late 1980s, Myers also worked briefly on the financial copy desk and then as business editor at the Washington Post. She went on to take various public relations jobs before retiring around 2000.”
