Bob Quick, who worked as the business editor for the Santa Fe New Mexican, died last week after a lengthy battle with Lewy body dementia. He was 77.
Steve Terrell of the New Mexican wrote, “In 1981, Quick moved to Santa Fe, where his father and stepmother had bought a business, the Western Auto store on Camino de los Marquez, in 1966. Quick was hired by the Santa Fe Reporter as a business manager but soon began writing for the paper, reporting on sports and business.
“One day, at the old downtown Greyhound Bus station, Quick met Cynthia Vollmer, a counselor who worked for Ayudantes in Santa Fe for many years. She was taking a bus to Los Angeles. After a short stay there, she returned to Santa Fe — and to Quick. The two were married soon afterward.
“Former colleagues of Quick expressed sadness over his death on Facebook, many commenting on his sweet temperament and gentle demeanor.
“‘I usually got to the office early, but never early enough to beat Bob to work,’ said Rob Dean, a former editor of The New Mexican. ‘Often, he and I would be there in a mostly empty newsroom when any one of many frequent visitors might walk in. …”
