Former Fortune ME to write book on climate change

Iris Carmon of Women’s Wear Daily reports Monday that former Fortune managing editor Eric Pooley has signed  acontract to write a book about the politics of climate change.

Carmon wrote, “‘It’s inspired by the fact that the debate has shifted pretty recently from whether the crisis is real to whether we can solve it in time,’ Pooley told WWD. ‘That’s a debate that has to play out in the political arena, and nobody’s really written a book about the crisis from a political point of view….The beautiful thing is that the political system has never been geared for immediate anything. We’ve got this kind of dysfunctional democracy that has to rise to the occasion.’

“Hyperion won out against four other houses, said one publishing source, and will publish the book in 2009. It will be Pooley’s first, drawing on his experiences as a political reporter and editor at Time, and as an editor of green business coverage at Fortune.

“‘Since I moved back into writing, I’ve been looking for the right book, and this is the one,’ he said. ‘I was editing magazines for five years and that delayed my move into book writing.'”
