Former California TV biz reporter dies in car crash

Former Bakersfield, Calif.-based television anchor and business reporter Gaylen Young died Thursday in a rollover crash in central Utah. He was 59.

A story on KGET-TV’s website states, “Young’s 16-year old son Walker was driving at the time and their car hit another car on I-15 near Santaquin. Young’s vehicle hit the median and rolled several times throwing him from the vehicle and killing him, Utah NBC-affiliate KSL reported. Walker Young was is being treated for minor injuries.

“The driver of the other vehicle, 41-year-old Laura Christensen of South Jordan, suffered only minor injuries, KSL reported.

“Gaylen Young worked at KGET from January 1984 until July 2007. He served as the main anchor for the 5, 6, 11 and Sunrise news programs and as a business reporter during that time.

“Young moved to Utah in 2009 to be closer to his family.”
