Here is the announcement. If you are currently a business journalist but have no academic teaching experience, don’t be dismayed by the language in this announcement. Plenty of us teaching business journalism at the University level got into this racket without much, or any, teaching experience:
PROFESSOR/ASSOCIATE/ASSISTANT PROFESSOR, FLORIDA INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY, SCHOOL OF JOURNALISM & MASS COMMUNICATIONS.
Seeking candidates for new position to head-up a specialized journalism master’s degree in business journalism.
Ideal candidate will have extensive business journalism experience along with strong academic and teaching credentials.
This position will be responsible for recommending courses within the program and for recruitment and coordination. The position entails teaching at both the bachelor and master’s levels. Administrative experience is essential; fluency in Spanish is a plus.
The normal full-time load is three 3 credit courses per semester, or the equivalent – equivalency includes coordination, program development time – along with the usual commitments to department service and scholarship or creative endeavor.
Salary and rank are based on qualifications and professional experience. While the Ph.D. is preferred, exceptional teaching or professional experience and a master’s degree would earn a professional track appointment.
