Malcolm Berko, the syndicated financial advice columnist whose work has appeared for years in newspapers across the country, has died.
A story on the Columbian website states, “AM Syndication, which has distributed Berko’s column since March, said Friday that it had been informed by Berko’s family that he passed away Thursday.
“Berko wrote his ‘Taking Stock’ investment column for more than 40 years, working with many syndicates over the years and coming to Andrews McMeel Syndication in March.
“‘He was a joy to work with, and his feisty personality came through in his writing about a subject not known for fun reading,’ the syndicate said in a statement to its customers.
“‘During his short time with AM Syndication we quickly learned how popular he was with your readers and how he kept them engaged,’ the statement added.
“AM Syndication contacted ‘Taking Stock’ subscribers June 4 to inform them that Berko was ill and would not file any columns that week. It sent out a follow-up email Monday stating Berko had decided to end his column.”
