Fast Company wins magazine of the year

Fast Company, the magazine about business, technology and design, won the coveted title of Magazine of the Year on Thursday for its print and digital coverage.

Leslie Kaufman of the New York Times writes, “At the National Magazine Awards, which are given by the American Society of Magazine Editors and are the industry’s top honors, Fast Company also was cited for producing inspirational conferences and events that helped to create ‘a powerful media brand.’

“The New Yorker led the pack of winners with four awards, which included a citation for its television critic, Emily Nussbaum, and for best fiction for a short story, ‘The Embassy of Cambodia,’ by Zadie Smith.

“New York magazine was a close second with three awards: general excellence for a general interest publication, best design and best website. Bon Appétit and National Geographic won two awards apiece. National Geographic’s awards were both for digital work: one for best tablet or e-reader edition and one for multimedia storytelling.

“Two publications won National Magazine Awards for the first time: Cosmopolitan, which began as a sexy modern women’s magazine in 1965, won for public service for ‘Your Cosmo Guide to Contraception’; Modern Farmer, founded just last year, won for a regularly appearing section called ‘Modern Farmer Handbook.'”
