Enderle, 78, helped promote business journalism education

Ray Enderle, a former Wall Street Journal reporter who later led a movement to improve business journalism education on college campuses, died March 16 at the age of 78, according to an obituary in the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Walter Naedele of the Inquirer writes, “Mr. Enderle was a member of the board of directors of the National Press Foundation in Washington from 1981 to 1986, where he developed a program to educate journalism professors about business journalism.

“His son said that Mr. Enderle also persuaded Sun executives to fund and staff four conferences from 1983 through 1986 that focused on the financial and business-news pages of newspapers.

“Those gatherings — at Princeton University, the University of Missouri, the University of California, Berkeley, and the Biltmore in Asheville, N.C. — helped journalism schools develop courses in the reporting of business news and economics, his son said.”
