Editor asks for suggestions, and gets them

Nancy Dahlberg, who took over as editor of the Business Monday section of the Miami Herald recently, asked readers last week for suggestions on how to improve the tabloid.

Readers told her what they liked, and what they didn’t like, about the section.

Dahlberg wrote, “Thank you for all your thoughtful suggestions last week.

“What some of you want more of in Business Monday: profiles of businesses, big and small, particularly rags-to-riches stories; commercial and residential real estate news; stories about economic issues such as the insurance crisis and affordable housing. You liked Jim Wyss’ useful small-business coverage, Gregg Fields’ witty column and the Q&As. Some miss coverage of the professions and workplace.

“Many of you told me about your own interesting businesses, and I enjoyed learning about them. I can’t promise we’ll be able to write about all of them, but they are on my radar. Keep the ideas coming.”

Read more here. One note: Fields has left the Herald’s full-time staff to create a business journalism program at Florida International University, but he’s going to continue writing the column. I’m a big fan of journalism professors who keep their hand in the industry.
