Dow Jones names chief compliance officer

Dow Jones & Co., the parent of The Wall Street Journal, has named one of its attorneys to the position of chief compliance officer.

One of Jason Conti’s first jobs will be to revise the company code of conduct.

Samuel Rubenfeld of The Journal writes, “The promotion went into effect Oct. 1, and Conti will report to both Todd Larsen, president of Dow Jones, and Mark Jackson, executive vice president and general counsel, in this capacity. Conti also continues his role overseeing press and litigation matters for Dow Jones, and for that he’ll continue to report to Jackson.

“Conti graduated from Boston College Law School, and joined Dow Jones in March 2008. Prior to joining the company, he was an attorney at Hogan & Hartson LLP, which is now Hogan Lovells. There, he defended media companies in defamation, privacy and copyright actions.

“One of Conti’s first projects as chief compliance officer, he said, will be to roll out a revision of the Dow Jones Code of Conduct. The latest version was published in 1998, he said.

“‘Dow Jones has long had a robust Code of Conduct that gives employees guidance on professional conduct. In an effort to further bolster our compliance efforts, we are planning to roll out a refined Code that strengthens and clarifies several provisions,’ he said.”
