Almar Latour, publisher and executive vice president of the Dow Jones Media Group, sent out the following announcement on Thursday:
All,
I’m extremely pleased to announce that Dave Pettit is appointed Managing Editor, Strategy and Operations, for Dow Jones Media Group and all its titles.
In this important new role, Dave will serve as the key liaison between the combined DJMG newsroom and our commercial operations. He will also help lead editorial efforts to intensify collaboration among our newsrooms, further grow membership and audience, improve our news metabolism and boost live journalism. He will report to me.
Dave joins DJMG as we’re seeking to become the foremost provider of financial news and expertise in the world. After having achieved record audience and membership numbers in the past 12 months, we’re now seeking to accelerate our growth of subscribers, audience, advertising and influence.
Dave has been a leader in the digital development of The Wall Street Journal for two decades. Most recently, he was Editorial Ventures Editor and led initiatives that extended WSJ journalism into new areas and formats, including data-driven listings of colleges, tech companies and corporate managements. The U.S. colleges rankings, for example, have been widely popular and a significant driver of WSJ subscriptions. He was part of the original team that launched WSJ.com, where he spent 14 years in senior roles helping to drive news coverage and develop the Journal’s online presence.
As deputy editor of WSJ.com, Dave oversaw digital and multimedia expansion and led a redesign project that dramatically enhanced use of visuals and data. More recently, he developed coverage areas and products for the Journal for the professional market, including the first WSJ Pro coverage verticals and newsletters. Dave was project leader for a WSJ digital transformation project. He began his career as an editor and reporter for Dow Jones Newswires, covering Wall Street and securities regulation.
Please join me in wishing Dave the best of luck in his new assignment.
