Discrimination cases against Bloomberg rise

Nearly six dozen women who worked at financial news and data company Bloomberg LP claim they were demoted and discriminated against after they became pregnant, according to a story from Reuters.

Leslie Gevirtz reports that the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission has filed a lawsuit against the company.

Gevirtz writes, “Bloomberg LP spokeswoman Judith Czelusniak said in an e-mailed statement that the company had more than 10,000 employees worldwide and that fewer than two dozen employment lawsuits had been filed against it in the United States.

“‘Last month, the U.S. District Court in New Jersey dismissed an employment discrimination suit by four current and former employees, finding that the plaintiffs’ allegations were baseless,’ she said, without providing additional details.

“According to court documents, the plaintiffs in that lawsuit accused the company of age and disability discrimination, retaliation and sexual harassment.”
