I never had enough sources, didn’t make enough calls, missed obvious things going on under my nose, didn’t write well enough, ignored stories I probably should have pursued, had a hard time remembering names and faces, wasn’t excited enough by new airplanes, took too long to produce a story, wasn’t kind enough to my colleagues, ate badly and often and kept a messy desk. I would have brought this up earlier, but now I’m not worried about my annual performance review.
“4. The reason I’ve decided to retire? It’s like eating at Golden Corral. At some point, you say, ‘It’s been good but I’ve had enough.'”
