Crain remains committed to its city biz papers

Keith Crain, the chairman of Crain Communications, said the company remains committed to Crain’s New York Business and its other three city journals — in Chicago, Cleveland and Detroit, reports Keith Kelly of the New York Post.

Kelly reports, “Almost immediately following the sale, there was speculation that the city titles were vulnerable to a sell-off or a shutdown.

“In the change of ownership, David Klein, a senior vice president who was seen as a key Rance ally, was let go. Klein could not be reached for comment, but he had overseen a number of titles including Ad Age, Crain’s New York Business and Pensions & Investments.

“A year ago, the publisher of Crain’s Chicago Business, David Snyder, resigned after 33 years at the company and its edit staff was cut.

“Keith Crain insisted that the city weeklies are very much part of the company’s plans going forward. And when asked if Rance had been their spiritual overseer, he said, ‘Not true.'”
