Today, Shannon Liao joins us in New York as an associate writer on Dave’s Business and Markets team, reporting to Jill. She will work a Sunday through Thursday week, early mornings during the weekdays, as a general assignment reporter covering on-mission trending stories across all subjects, with a special focus on personal tech. As such, she will work closely with the Tech team, particularly Sam in New York.
As we previously announced, Alicia Wallace joins us on May 23 in a new cannabusiness beat. Alicia is one of the nation’s most-seasoned reporters on cannabusiness: She developed the national marijuana policy and business reporting beat for The Denver Post, and she has been on the leading edge of cannabusiness reporting since Colorado became the first state in the nation to launch recreational cannabis sales. Alicia brings deep industry knowledge and expert investigative skills to the beat. She joins us most recently as a Knight-Bagehot fellow at Columbia University. Alicia will report to Alex and will work in San Francisco.
And on June 5, Clare Duffy joins Matt’s Tech team as a business of tech reporter, working closely with the Business and Markets team. Clare will be covering Big Tech companies’ strategies: What they’re selling, who’s developing what and why they’re making it and how they plan to build sustainable businesses in an industry full of upheaval. Clare worked at the Portland Business Journal, becoming an expert on Nike and e-gaming. She will be graduating Columbia Journalism School later this month. Clare will start in New York and later move to San Francisco, where she’ll be based.
