Ron Insana, a former CNBC anchor and host of the show “Street Signs” on the business news cable network, is joining the board of directors of a privately held company.

MarketWatch reports, “Critical Mention Inc., a privately held media search and monitoring service, will appoint former CNBC anchor Ron Insana to its Board of Directors on Wednesday.

“Insana will provide ‘strategic direction and counsel’ to the New York-based company, which provides services that allow businesses to monitor, search and track television coverage about their company. Critical Mention was formed in 2002.

“Insana joined CNBC in 1991. He is the host of ‘Street Signs,’ an hour-long show that airs daily on the network, and contributes to other programs as an analyst.”

The move is likely to raise questions about whether business journalists should be involved in outside business ventures. I don’t know of another business journalist who sits on the board of any company.
