CNBC hires Repko to cover big-box retailers

CNBC.com managing editor Jeffrey McCracken sent out the following announcement on Monday to the staff:

I am pleased to announce a new hire for the CNBC.com newsroom.

Melissa Repko joins us as a retail reporter focusing on big-box retailers like Walmart and Target. She comes from The Dallas Morning News, where she has worked since graduating college in 2010. While there, Melissa covered a variety of local news and business beats. In recent years, she focused on tech and innovation, with an emphasis on companies including AT&T and Uber.

Melissa graduated from Barnard College of Columbia University where she received a degree in political science. As a student, she immersed herself in journalism by spending countless hours as a reporter and later as editor-in-chief of the Columbia Daily Spectator. She also interned for The Buffalo News, The Oregonian and ABC News.

She grew up around Cleveland but considers New York City a second home given that she many relatives in the area. Melissa enjoys running, traveling and eating great food, so she’s already on the lookout for recommendations on scenic running routes and favorite restaurants. She’s also looking forward to eating real bagels again.

Melissa will start her new position in early February. Please say hello when she arrives.
