Melissa Castro has been hired by the Charlottesville (Va.) Daily Progress as its business reporter/editor.

A story on its website states, “Castro, 46, earned a master’s in journalism from Columbia University, as well as a law degree from Georgetown University. She has worked as a commercial litigator with Washington law firms and as a reporter at The Star-Ledger in Newark, New Jersey, the Washington Business Journal and The Durango Herald in Colorado.

“After moving to Charlottesville, she was self-employed as a writing consultant and freelance writer, and later worked as a financial industry ethics investigator with the CFA Institute.

“Castro’s business coverage will focus on enterprise stories that are unique to college town economies, including university and venture-funded startups; entrepreneurship in tech, health care and the creative economy; and media and financial services.”
