Chris Lester, the Kansas City Star’s assistant managing editor for business, disclosed some of the changes to the paper’s Business Weekly in Tuesday’s paper.
Lester wrote, “In Star Business Weekly, for example, we’ve created an Emerging Business section that focuses on entrepreneurs and growing local companies. We are highlighting trends and topics of interest to entrepreneurs, and local businesses that previously didn’t get a lot of attention from the local press.
“We’ve also created a regular weekly feature, KC Stars, that will highlight the major players in various industries in town. We hope to build a significant research database in print and online that will both enhance our reporting and become a useful public resource for the business community.
“The point is rather simple, but hugely important. While this community’s big businesses will always generate many of the big headlines, most of this city’s business actually takes place at smaller companies. We want to shed more light on our growers, the companies creating the wealth and jobs that will sustain this community over the decades to come.”
The Wednesday through Saturday sections will continue to focus on breaking news. Read more here.
