BusinessWeek story taken off Internet after error discovered

TALKING BIZ NEWS EXCLUSIVE

A story in the latest issue of BusinessWeek has been taken off the magazine’s Web site after an error was discovered in its content.

The story, titled “How Much are Twitter’s Tweets Really Worth” now simply contains the text, “This story contained a factual error that rendered its premise incorrect. The story is no longer available. We regret the error.”

The story is on page 31 in the latest issue by Spencer Ante. The story said “Last year, 50 million users posted 8 billion tweets, according to research firm Synopsos, which means Google and Microsoft are paying roughly 3 cents for every 1,000 tweets.”

Well, someone did the math wrong. It should have been $3 for every 1,000 tweets.

Ante is an associate editor for BusinessWeek. Previously, Ante was computers department editor. Before joining BusinessWeek in February, 2000, he was a staff reporter for TheStreet.com. Prior to that, he was a contributing writer at Wired News, a columnist for Business 2.0, a producer for the Netscape NetCenter, and associate editor of The Web Magazine.

Bloomberg LP acquired BusinessWeek last month.
