The Springfield Business Journal in Missouri has filed a motion to dismiss a slander lawsuit brought against the paper by a man who advocated that taxation is un-Christian.
Baranyai wrote, “Then men have since repaid their debts — a total of several hundred thousand dollars — and gone on a speaking tour for the government discouraging others from getting involved in illicit tax protests.
“It was during the tour they were interviewed by the Springfield Business Journal and profiled in a November article.
“It’s that story — and the comments in it — that led Springer to sue, alleging he was libeled and slandered.
“In the lawsuit, Springer says his reputation was defamed, and is suing each of the six defendants for $1,000,000. He also demanded a jury trial.”
