Business Insider has promoted Emily Cohn to deputy editor in chief.

Emily is the kind of person who makes this place go: Strategic, analytical, and deeply committed to journalism,” wrote global editor in chief Nicholas Carlson on Twitter. “She’s also a pure delight to work with.”

She has been the executive growth editor at Insider Inc. where she leads all audience expansion initiatives for Business Insider and Insider.

Cohn built the company’s first-ever growth team, which arms the newsroom with audience data and insights. She also oversaw Insider’s search engine optimization strategy and manages multiple teams of reporters and editors experimenting with new ways to tell stories.

She was formerly Business Insider’s senior business editor and managing editor of Tech Insider.

Previously, Cohn worked at HuffPost as business editor and was the founding editor of the site’s personal finance section.

Cohn graduated from Cornell University, where she was the editor in chief of The Cornell Daily Sun.
