Insider global editor in chief Nicholas Carlson sent out the following announcement on Monday:
Team!
I’m very pleased to announce that we’ve promoted Olivia Oran to Head of Editorial Subscription Strategy. Olivia will report to me.
Olivia is taking over for Matt Turner, who held the role part time until his own recent promotion to co-EIC of Business Insider. Matt has been instrumental in the early success of our paywall strategy. I am deeply grateful for him for his hard work, creative, and giant ambitions. Thank you, Matt.
In her new role, Olivia will…
-Deliver clear, actionable insights that help editors and reporters understand what’s resonating with our subscribers.
-Work alongside journalists to shape and execute editorial plans.
-Work closely with data, product, and distribution teams to analyze and grow our subscriber base.
-Work with colleagues across the organization to execute tests around subscriber growth, engagement, and retention.
-Create new editorial products for existing and potential subscribers.
-Act as a liaison between the editorial and business teams.
-Develop subscription best practices and train the editorial team on those practices.Olivia was previously a deputy executive editor for Business Insider, where she led teams of reporters and editors covering finance, real estate, investing, markets, healthcare, legal and energy.
She’s also been actively involved in helping grow BI’s subscription product via new audiences, distribution, and partnerships.
Prior to joining BI in April 2018, she spent six years at Reuters where she covered large Wall Street banks, as well as mergers and acquisitions and corporate governance among healthcare, consumer, and retail companies. Before that, covered technology news at TheStreet and Mergermarket. Olivia began her career as an investment banker at JPMorgan working with technology and media companies.
If subscriptions are also core to your job, make sure to reach out and pick her brain for help. That’s what’s she here for!
Subscriptions are certainly a core part of Insider’s future, and I’m excited to see what Olivia can do to help us reach our giant ambitions.
