Bloomberg News hires WSJ reporter Roof for deals team

Wall Street Journal reporter Katie Roof has been hired by Bloomberg News.

She started on Monday on the deals team covering venture capital-backed technology deals. Roof will remain based in San Francisco.

U.S. deals team leader Liana Baker wrote, “Katie Roof will be starting today in San Francisco (remotely!) to cover venture capital dealmaking. She joins the Bloomberg Deals team from The Wall Street Journal, where she was a reporter covering venture capital on the Pro team in San Francisco. Before that, she was a senior writer at TechCrunch and hosted a popular podcast about venture capital. This will be a return to Bloomberg for Katie: Her first business news job was here, working in TV production while in journalism grad school at Columbia.”

Roof joined the Journal in May 2018 for the WSJ Pro Venture Capital publication covering startups and venture capital.

Roof was previously a senior writer and video host at TechCrunch. She also co-hosted TechCrunch’s “Equity” podcast about tech finance.

Previously, Roof has held television production roles at CNN and Bloomberg Television.

Roof has a Master’s in Business Journalism from Columbia University and a bachelor’s degree from the University of California at San Diego.
