Bloomberg Industry hires Maier as deputy team leader for tax coverage

Bloomberg Industry Group has hired Butch Maier to be its deputy team leader for tax coverage.

He will start next week. Maier has been editor of business publication Inside Business, and a professor at Hampton University.

At Inside Business, based in Norfolk, Virginia, Maier was writer, associate editor and editor-in-chief and set several records for page views and unique users on InsideBiz.com.

Maier also worked as a copy editor at the Virginian-Pilot, a page designer and copy editor at the Plain Dealer in Cleveland, and a sports page designer and copy editor at the St. Petersburg Times and Boston Globe.

He also worked at the Akron Beacon-Journal and Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

Maier is a graduate of Guilford College. He recently earned a master’s in strategic communication from California Baptist University.

Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
