John Authers, the chief markets commentator and associate editor for the Financial Times, has been hired by Bloomberg News.
He will start next month.
In a memo to the staff on Monday, Chris Collins, senior executive editor, breaking news & markets, wrote, “Reporting to Madeleine Lim as a senior editor, John will help our teams join the dots between the biggest themes in markets and deliver authoritative reporting and analysis across all our platforms. He will also write a daily column and produce a newsletter for Bloomberg Opinion (you can sign up for it here).”
Authers has been at the FT for 29 years and was associate editor and chief markets commentator.
Most recently, he has been responsible for the Authers’ Note newsletter, the weekly Long View column, which he has been writing since 2006, and other columns on markets and investment. In a career at the FT, his previous posts have included global head of the Lex column, investment editor, U.S. markets editor, Mexico City bureau chief and U.S. banking correspondent.
His latest book is “Europe’s Financial Crisis,” published in 2012. His book “The Victim’s Fortune,” on the campaign for Holocaust survivors’ restitution and written jointly with Richard Wolffe, was published by HarperCollins in 2002.
Authers has a degree in philosophy, politics and economics from the University of Oxford, and an MBA from Columbia University.
