Al Tompkins of the Poynter Institute has some great suggestions on covering the Black Friday shopping day that go beyond traipsing to the malls and shopping centers and talking to consumers.
In addition, Tompkins notes that there is a big story about compulsive shopping. “This season is to compulsive shoppers what Thanksgiving is to overeaters or New Year’s Eve is to alcoholics,” wrote Tompkins. “The temptations and hype to ‘shop ’til you drop’ are everywhere.”
