Biz magazines among Ellie finalists

The American Society of Magazine Editors released the list of finalists for the 2017 National Magazine Awards for Print and Digital Media.

Here are the business magazines that are finalists:

Bloomberg Businessweek — general excellence in the news, sports and entertainment category.

Wired — leisure interests for “What to Eat Today,” August.

Bloomberg Businessweek — reporting for “Walmart’s Crime Problem,” by Shannon Pettypiece and David Voreacos, Aug. 22-28.

The Economist — columns and commentary for three obituaries by Ann Wroe: “Manohar Aich: Raising the Temple,” June 18-24, “Elie Wiesel: Unanswerable Questions,” July 9-15, and “Qusai Abtini: From Child to Man,” Aug. 13-19.

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
