Biz editor: A great time for business news

Bradenton Herald business editor Jennifer Rich argues in her Tuesday column that now is a great time for business news, and many stories could be Hollywood fodder.

Rich wrote, “And people think business is dull.

“How anyone this day and age can think business is all facts and numbers is beyond me. They must be living in a cave.

“Business stories today have it all – intrigue, pathos, mystery, corruption and lots of titillating greed. They are so exciting that you can find yourself sitting on the edge of your seat as you read your Wall Street Journal, waiting for the next shoe to drop or criminal to go to jail.

“Take, for instance, the ongoing saga of Hewlett-Packard and its governing board. It has all the makings of a great Movie of the Week.

“A smart woman CEO at the top of her game gets caught red-handed hiring private investigators to check out the phone records of reporters and board members in an attempt to stop leaks from the board room.

“Violation of privacy rights. An FBI investigation. Possible criminal charges. What a great script! And in the midst of the chaos, investors gobbling up HP stocks.”
