BI’s Joe Weisenthal plans to work a long time

Nicole Levy of Capital New York interviewed Business Insider’s Joe Weisenthal about what is going on at the business news site.

Here is an excerpt:

CAPITAL: Last month, Henry Blodget and Nick Denton acknowledged that they had at least discussed the idea of a Gawker/Business Insider merger. Is Business Insider setting itself up to be acquired anytime soon?

WEISENTHAL: Henry and Nick talk about a lot of things. I’m 33, so I will probably be working for another 40 years or so. And my plan is to work at an independent BI that whole time.

CAPITAL: Recently, Business Insider hired Aaron Gell to edit long-form features on the site. What can we expect on that front in 2014?

WEISENTHAL: In just a short time, Aaron’s already had a big impact on the site, helping to deliver wonderful stories on topics like the protests at WalMart, the culture of Couchsurfing.com, the craft beer bubble, and Amazon’s crackdown on cryptozoological erotica (porn with monsters). There’s a bunch of great stories in the pipeline, and it’s exciting to already see the site as a place where great longform writers want to have their stuff published.
