James Bennet, the former editorial page editor at The New York Times, is joining The Economist.
Bennet will be a visiting senior editor for one year. He starts on Feb. 1.
Bennet resigned from the Times in June 2020 after it published a much-criticized op-ed by a United States senator calling for a military response to civic unrest in American cities.
He joined the Times in 2016 after being editor in chief of The Atlantic from 2006 to 2016. He previously worked at the Times as a White House correspondent, Jerusalem bureau chief and Beijing correspondent.
