Barron’s hires two new writers: Klein and Liu

Barron’s editor in chief Katherine Bell sent out the following announcement on Wednesday:

Hi all,

I’m delighted to welcome two new writers to the Barron’s newsroom: Matthew Klein and Evie Liu.

Matthew Klein will join Barron’s on April 16 as our economics commentator. For the last four years, Matt has written for the Alphaville section of the Financial Times. He has previously written for The Economist and for Bloomberg View, where his work on “How Americans Die” won an Eppy award for Best Online Infographic. Before entering journalism, Matt helped with research for The Man Who Knew, Sebastian Mallaby’s seminal biography of Alan Greenspan. Matt first got the bug for writing about economics and finance while an investment associate at Bridgewater Associates. He studied history at Yale. Originally from Chicago, he lives in San Francisco. He will be based in Dow Jones’ San Francisco office, but he’ll be in New York the week of the 16th to meet everyone here.

Evie Liu has joined the Barron’s markets team as both a traditional reporter and a data journalist helping to find new ways of telling market stories. Evie has been a data reporter with Dow Jones Media Group since September 2016. She’s covered a wide range of data-driven subjects including super-jumbo mortgages for Mansion Global; immigration, labor and personal finance for MarketWatch; and investing stories for Barron’s Next. Previously Evie worked as a data journalist at New York Daily News and an online editorial assistant for CNN in Hong Kong. She attended Beijing Foreign Studies University and has an MA in journalism from the University of Southern California.

I’m very excited about these new roles and the ideas and expertise Evie and Matt will bring to Barron’s.
