Barron’s hires Lenz as head of design and visuals

We are thrilled to announce Kristin Lenz will be joining Barron’s as its next Head of Design and Visuals.

Kristin is an experienced creative leader, problem solver and systems thinker at heart. With more than 20 years of experience at major media companies, her visual editing conveys complex information in simple, elegant and meaningful experiences, regardless of platform.

Kristin was most recently at Mansueto Ventures, Inc. and Fast Company media, as Product Director of Special Projects, where she guided the new product direction of the company’s most valuable editorial franchises, most notably the Inc. 5000. Leading a team of editors, designers and developers to deliver their best work, her creative and data-driven approach helped to streamline internal processes and systems to design and deliver more meaningful user-focused experiences with an eye on increased revenue and brand reach. While at Inc., she also worked as an art director, leading the brand to launch some of its first interactive and data-driven experiences, redesigning the magazine and digital offerings, working on client-side projects, and collaborating across departments on cohesive brand strategy.

Prior to that, Kristin was a Senior Art Director at The Washington Post, and has also held creative roles at The Boston Globe, The Hartford Courant and others. She’s worked with startups and other companies on evolving their visual, data and information architecture styles and overall creative strategies.

Her work has been honored by The Society of Publication Designers, Best American Infographics, the American Society of Magazine Editors, the Society of Illustrators, The Society of News Design and Print’s Regional Design Annual.

Kristin’s love and appreciation for journalism began in high school when her journalism teacher had the class watch All the President’s Men, followed by Fletch. She lives in Brooklyn and likes running and chocolate chip cookies, one more than the other.

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
